Keep to your New Year’s Resolutions for 2017
Keeping to your New Year’s Resolutions for 2017 can be tough going for all of us. It is so easy post the silly season of excessive eating, drinking and afternoon naps to start the year enthusiastic to set goals! Most of us, myself included, immediately feel those few extra kilograms, the extra cellulite and bad eating habits we acquire in the few weeks over the holidays.
While on holiday I did a little to much of the above! With so many occasions it is hard to avoid the bubbles! But not to despair, here is how I can help you! (and ME!!!)
We rush into the New Year with plenty of resolutions. But what happens that we so often run out of steam and how can we stick to our desired goals?
Here is how I can help you stick to your desired goals-
I am a firm believer that it always takes more than one discipline to achieve your goals. It shouldn’t only be about Yoga, or only be Cardio workouts. Achieving your health and wellness goals is always about balance in all aspects of your life.
Stress management, diet, regular exercise and a few extra body treatments really does make all the difference.
You see its important to keep your New Year’s Resolutions SMART-
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Time based
The problem for many of us is we create unrealistic goals and look for quick fix options that simply aren’t sustainable.
Step 1: Specific
Ensure that your goals are tangible, if you can notice and see change you are more likely to stay on track. Ask your self questions like What is it I want to achieve? Who do I need to help me? Where can I get help or expertise? Why do you want to change certain habits or create new ones?
Step 2: Measurable
Keeping track of your goals also helps you stay motivated. Weigh yourself, have your body fat percentage taken, better yet brave the dreaded before and after photo’s. Then from there workout how much weight do you want to loose? What is more important cellulite reduction, toning or general weight loss? Most importantly how will you know when you have achieved your goals?
Step 3: Achievable
Is the goal attainable? Avoid goals that are too extreme and overwhelming. For example when it comes to weigh loss don’t aim to loose 6 kilograms in one month, but rather 3 kilograms. Slow and steady wins the race I can assure you!
Step 4: Realistic
Keep your goals worthwhile, this overlaps with achievable. It is much easier to keep to your New Year’s resolutions if you they are relevant.
Step 5: Time Based
A commitment to a deadline or time frame helps you to keep working towards that date. Plus it reminds us that the process isn’t going to last forever. Ask yourself questions such as When will I start and finish? What can I do today to work towards my goals? What will be different 6 weeks from now or 6 months from now?
