SUMMARY:The Six Stages Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Enhance your understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the context of Yin Yoga with this upcoming workshop. \nThis four part module is designed to deepen your understanding of the intricate channel system and how it can be applied to Yin Yoga. \nThe workshop is ideal for any Yin Yoga teachers or Yoga therapists who have a strong affiliation to applied principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and would like to learn more. Module 1 in particular is a great revision block for current practitioners. It is recommended to have some familiarity with the primary channel system. \nThe six stages\, or six levels are a diagnostic framework used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In most Yin Yoga teacher training courses you learn about the interior – exterior pairing of the Yin and Yang (Zang-Fu) organs of each element. The six stages pair hand and foot channels as a means of describing the progression of external pathogenic factors\, particularly cold\, through the body’s internal pathways and organ systems. \nThe concept of the Six Stages originates from one of the foundational texts of TCM : the Shang Han Lun. The theories were developed at a time when febrile diseases were very prevalent. Each stage aligns with the movement of pathogenic factors such as wind\, cold and heat through the body\, reflecting the interrelated aspects of Yin-Yang dynamics and the Zang-Fu organs. \nIt might be useful to think of it as a tool that helps to guide a practitioner in diagnosing and treating certain conditions based on the stage and nature of the disease process. It can also be related to understanding the flow of energy and sense of balance in the body. \nWhen combined with Yin Yoga and breath work\, we can use specific poses to restore balance in the body. By understanding the hand and foot pairing\, Yin Yoga teachers can be more intentional about where and how to move the Qi in the body. \nModule 1 – : Revision of the primary channels and the extraordinary channels of the Ren & Du. Introduction to the Body Clock according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Retrace the pathways and begin to deepen your understanding of their interconnectedness. Recognise how this is reflected in the body clock system. \nModule 2 – : The Six Stages : Pairing the hand and foot channels. Alternative to the interior exterior pairing of the primary channels\, they can also be paired according to hand and foot combinations of the six stages. This intricate system blends beautifully with potential class themes for Yoga therapists and/or Yin Yoga practitioners. \nModule 3 – : Pathologies of the Six Stages : how to recognise potential physical and emotional imbalances. Not a diagnostic tool\, but rather an introduction to a new perspective on selecting channels and designing new class themes. \nModule 4 – : Pose recommendations and Source points. Learn to identify the recommended poses and appropriate source points according to each stage. \nThe first 3 modules are facilitated online and the fourth module is in-studio. If you are unable to attend the final module in person an arrangement can be made for a one on one session online. Avoiding any potential disconnections in a hybrid setting. \nInvestment per module : R 550 \nCost to attend all four modules : R 2000 (10% discount) \nVenue : Modules 1 – 3 Online via Zoom\, Tuesday evenings 530pm -8pm 17th\, 24th \, 31st March  \nVenue : Module 4 : Parkwood Studio \,Johannesburg\, Saturday 11th April 1030am – 1pm  \nFor more information email theresa@theresamoodie.com or take a read : https://theresamoodie.com/blog/yoga/the-six-stages-in-application-to-yin-yoga/

SUMMARY:The Ren & the Chong Mai
DESCRIPTION:The Ren & the Chong Mai\nThe Sea of Yin and the Sea of Blood.  \nLearn how to integrate these two extraordinary channels into your Yin Yoga sequencing. Better understand their role in balancing and regulating the hormonal systems.  \nThe Ren Mai and the Chong Mai are considered the foundation of feminine rhythm and vitality. \nThe Ren\, also know as the Conception Vessel\, runs along the front midline of the body\, from the perineum up to the lips. It is called the Sea of Yin because it gathers the cooling\, nourishing and stabilising forces that keep us grounded and whole. It plays a pivotal role in the functioning of the uterus\, menstrual cycle and the quality of our Yin energy. \nThe Chong\, the Penetrating vessel\, rises from the same source and travels deep through the abdomen\, chest and legs. The Sea of Blood connects the reproductive system with the heart\, linking emotion and fertility\, passion and purpose. \nWhen the Ren & Chong are in harmony\, the hormonal fluctuations move more smoothly. The cycle is regular\, sleep is deep\, emotions flow easily. Stress\, overwork and ageing can deplete these channels. We may notice imbalances such as irregular cycles\, mood fluctuations\, heat at night or fatigue. \nYin yoga and pressure points are beautiful ways to nourish these rivers. The holds of Yin invite the fascia\, and the meridians woven within it\, to open slowly\, allowing Qi and blood to flow freely. Gentle pressure on specific acupressure points sends warmth deep into the womb and kidneys\, awakening the body’s innate wisdom to restore balance. \nThis workshop will teach you the channels pathways\, understanding of their functions and how best to apply this to Yin Yoga sequencing with the inclusion of self acupressure points. \nIt is preferable to have some understanding of the primary channels and/or Yin yoga to attend this module. \nCost : R 450  \nVenue : Online via Zoom ( Code to be shared on registration )  \nDate : Saturday 22nd November 1030am – 1pm

SUMMARY:Yin Yoga 100 Hour TTC
DESCRIPTION:Yin Yoga 100 Hour TTC\nThe next Yin Yoga 100 hour TTC with Shakti Yoga starts on the 28th September and runs until the 30th November.  \nI will be lecturing fundamental principals of Yin and Yang and basic anatomy applicable to a Yin Yoga class structure. \nYin yoga is a slow-paced style of Yoga. Asanas are held for anything from 2min – 15min for more advanced practitioners. The practice of Yin Yoga is becoming increasingly popular\, both for students and teachers. \nThis style is the perfect compliment to more dynamic styles of Yoga such as Ashtanga or Vinyasa. Equally beneficial if you practice other modalities such as a Martial arts\, endurance or strength training programs. \nThe principles of Yin Yoga follow those applied to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). \nI will be lecturing on this topic during this course • Discussing the principles of Yin and Yang  • Comparisons and similarities between Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine • Briefly looking at the physical benefits of Yin Yoga for the joints\, connective tissues and the nervous system. • I will also cover the 12 main meridian lines\, the theory of the five elements according to TCM and learn where some of the major pressure points are on the body. \nI will also lead a practical Yin Yoga class that incorporates the use of these pressure points during the class. \nEnsuring that by the end of the course you have an overview of these complex principals in application to teaching methodologies appropriate to a Yin Yoga class.
