Sashwa : River of stars

Sashwa River of stars in review

I recently had the privilege of being invited to join a Facilitators retreat hosted at the Sashwa River of stars Wellness Retreat in the Kruger Park.

Sashwa is located about 90min from Hoedspruit airport. The flight from Johannesburg is barely a full hour but very quickly the landscape changes from aerial views of city roof tops to rolling mountains and open spaces. Even on landing we were lucky enough to spot Elephants not far from the airport and several Impala.

Upon arrival we were met by the friendly staff who would transport our group to Sashwa. Some bumpy, dusty roads, Giraffe sitings and shared enthusiasm for what lay ahead, we arrived just as the evening began to cool down. I won’t ruin the welcome ceremony – just know that within minutes you feel as if you have arrived home after a long time away.

Each of us was allocated and escorted to our private rooms. All with en suite bathrooms, ample space to unpack, your very own Yoga mat and meditation cushion to use for the duration of your stay. One of my most favorite travel spoils is when a light, in this instance a salt lamp, is left on to welcome you to your room. Daily housekeeping meant that every evening on return from the game drive I was able to enjoy this indulgence.

Mornings started with Yoga on the deck overlooking the Olifants river, followed by a wildlife activity that included guided walks, another personal favorite. With expert guidance we were led to hidden treasures such as rock fig trees, termite nests, and other unique sightings often overlooked while on a game vehicle.

Mealtimes were leisurely and healthy indulgences of 100% plant based meals. For more Plant based meals – Dining at Sashwa

If we weren’t enjoying the sounds of nature that surrounded us during our Yoga sessions we were on the back of a vehicle where we were lucky enough to see Rhino, Elephant a variety of antelope and birds.

A facilitators dream, Sashwa has thought of everything you could need to make your retreat a success. If you, like myself, offer multidisciplinary retreats that include workshops, treatments and meditation alongside Yoga, this venue is has it all.

Amenities include : a Yoga Shala, outdoor Yoga deck, Meditation room, a Creative studio, infrared Sauna, Gym facility, outdoor shower, Star gazing, Spa and treatment rooms, Welcome room and deck area that would be perfect for workshop related activities, Bird hide, swimming pool and several outdoor lounge area.

A huge thank you once again to Sashwa, their outstanding staff, Dylan for our Ashtanga based, explorative Yoga sessions, to the group of fellow Wellness facilitators who all brought their own unique energy and enthusiasm.

This was an incredible experience well worth repeating!
